THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A PERSONAL PHYSICAL PRACTICE

Body love is an evolving Process.

Bodies are our tool we have to navigate this realm. From my belief System we are spiritual beings living a physical experience, I believe that the body is a gateway through which we can have glimpses to access other levels of our multidimensional beings.

I consider important for us to refine this instrument, make it smarter, more sensitive to the external and healthier to respond accordingly. There are processes (such as ageing), that we can delay and slow down when we build a trusting connection with our bodies. A consistent Physical Practice supports this connection.

What I call a Personal Physical Practice (PPP)

For me a PPP is a Body routine that we include in our every day life and becomes part of our life style and flows with easiness. This practice although starts as a conscious decision, with the time becomes almost unconscious, as brushing our teeth. We do not have to think, we just do it. A PPPis almost a ritualistic Routine.

For instance, with my husband our day start with a 40 minutes sitting meditation followed by doing the physical practice of the 5 Tibetan Rites. Every single day. If we have time we do a longer yoga session but by standard these are the two things that we do. We do not have to arrange it before hand or even put it on the diary, we get up and do it.

Why I think that having a PPP is important

-Body Love and Confidence is a process: we build it through permanent, and intentional actions. When we cultivate body awareness through a conscious and repetitive physical practice, we build up body confidence and body love.

- A consistent practice creates and perfect a Code of communication with our body, a way to give and receive feedback on daily bases, we sharpen our skills to make this communication more efficient. This facilitates more intimacy and engagement with our physical experience, We become more embodied with the tool of our choice.

-Allows us to ground in our body's needs and makes us more independent and disciplined in our physical discipline and life in general.

-A little a lot is better that a lot a little: We do not need one hour practice or even half and hour, we can dedicate 10 or 15 minutes to start with, and build up the time when the body and mind are ready.

- When we build a self-practice, we are telling the body that we care, we are acting from a place of self-love/responsibility/reliance. The body will pay us back with health, balance and physical alignment.

-We refine our physical tool, sharpening body communication to give and receive feedback

-Offer the versatility to practice at our own speed, space, location.

-Endorphins release: Endorphin provide the feeling good factor to the body, when you keep a consistent practice even short, the feeling god factor is released through this hormone, this improves the self-esteem and Body Confidence.

From my experience as a forever student, I acknowledge the importance of having mentors, teachers and coaches, They guide and equip us with tools and tips to understand the body and be more efficient in the physical practice. I have learnt and keep learning from my yoga and dance teachers. I have a big respect, gratitude and acknowledgement towards them.

The teachers I am more fond of give me the bases and provide enough room for me to structure a physical practice that meets the principles of body integrity and my personal needs of physical effort and pleasure. Not even your best and closest teacher will know better than you how your body works and feels and the best ways to resource it. You are the only one in your body.

From my experience as an embodiment facilitator and Yoga teacher, I have learn that the best legacy I can leave to my students is helping them to understand the power of self practice, the immense opportunity there is in building up a personal body code of communication. Some times we do not have the teacher but we always have the body with us, and the body can become our best teacher and guide. Very often our pains, stiffness and vulnerabilities help us to be more observant and diligent with our physical needs.

A good embodiment facilitator aims for its students and pupils to gain independence, support them to acquire and shape their own practice, and inviting body self-awareness and joy into the practice. I consider that supporting the students towards body awareness and ownership of their own strengths and fragilities is conducive towards self empowerment. Incorporating a conscious body practice in every day life with easiness and enjoyment, with or without teacher, allow us to be in the driver seat of our bodies honoring its needs with a routine that is compassionate, loving and unique.

I move and listen to my Body feed back
